There are various ways to direct a domain to a different domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. If you own a domain name and you have created a website using some on-line service which supplies you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you'll achieve in this way is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party provider. It is essential to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain name may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record directing to one provider and functioning email addresses with another one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and often additional configuration may be needed with the other company.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan through our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it will take you only a few clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia Control Panel included with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. In case you have never added this type of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will assist you with this task. If you have set up a site through another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, like Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few mouse clicks in your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to set up a CNAME record easily. In case you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to forward a domain to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain address to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not take you more than three mouse clicks to create this sort of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you're there, all that you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can watch a short video within the Control Panel concerning how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that is available in the DNS records section.
